SEIRENKAI KARATE
Karate Classes:
Thursdays 7:45-9:15 pm
Seirenkai Karate, taught by the Concord Self-Defense Academy, is a Japanese style of karate, with influences from Okinawan and Chinese martial arts. We emphasize maximum use of body dynamics for fast, powerful, and effective techniques in self-defense against single or multiple attackers, with and without weapons. Our techniques are designed for self-defense and we do not emphasize competitive sparring. Seirenkai Karate is appropriate for mature students ages 12 and up.
Karate classes include the practice of Kihon (blocks, strikes, punches, kicks, etc) as well as Kata (pre-arranged sequences of self-defense techniques). Kata is the nucleus of traditional karate and we focus on the bunkai or analysis of kata with the goal of applying the kata to self-defense. As with everything at the Concord Self-Defense Academy, the core of our focus is on self-defense and we learn and practice defenses against surprise attacks, grabs, punches, weapons, multiple attackers, attacks on the ground, and other types of self-defense situations. Through their Karate training, students at the Concord Self-Defense Academy build strength, fitness, and confidence.
Spring Session Begins April 3rd.
